After some research...
…I now have a huge number of ideas for the whole “Crow Mask” photograph series. :)
Can’t wait for the feathers to arrive, then I can start on the mask (the blank mask that will form the base of the mask arrived today).
Then I need to find a model and start working on the “set”.

If someone could just send me some artistic inspiration and the energy to do something with it then I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Researching bird masks in ancient Europe
…trying to find some inspiration for the forthcoming Crow Mask. Sounds like bird masks of various sorts were used across all of Europe in prehistoric times - I’ve found references from Greece, Scandinavia, and apparently there’s a person depicted wearing a bird mask in the Lascaux cave paintings.
In more practical matters, a supply of black feathers are apparently on their way...

Françoise Duvivier, a brilliant artist whose artwork is shown on my website, has sent me two of her original collages as a present.
I am utterly delighted. :D
…and it looks like I’ve had another surge of people liking the Facebook page for my art website.
That means I have to get some more artwork together quickly, otherwise they’ll go away.
Argh!

Spent the morning doing some more CSS work on my main art website to get it displaying properly on a smartphone or tablet. Not finished yet, but it’s looking distinctly better than it did before.
Now I want to make some artwork but I’m bereft of ideas.

I’m still stuck for new mask ideas. The bark mask was such an unexpected success (I thought it would look terrible) that I’ve got a mental block on doing any more.
On the positive side, my camo net has arrived today (for use in the background of a set of photos - it may work, it may fail completely) although I’m having problems keeping the cats off it.
There is a great deal of insanity on the internet tonight.

I’ve got a photoshoot vaguely scheduled for a week on Monday, and I need some new ideas for masks before then. Your suggestions are welcome, because I sure as hell can’t think of anything at the moment.
Then I’ll also need to schedule some more mask photoshoots for next weekend and also for July. Willing (and paid!) volunteers for models always appreciated (drop me an...

Blatant self promotion! This isn’t my Facebook profile, but a page for the Lazarus Corporation.
It has updates about my artwork (just like here) and also about the other artists and writers on the Lazarus Corporation website.
kateshields asked: With regards to masks, am just wondering if you'd seen Ben Hopper's 'Naked girls in masks' series? (You'll have to google as can't post links.) It's a project a friend of mine did which I think is pretty interesting. Great masks!
Anonymous asked: what's the next mask - the Crow mask? Get on with it now!!

Spent today managing not to do any artwork, but instead doing lots of displacement activities (hell, I even did some gardening).
Tomorrow: must start on next mask.

The Crow Mask...
I think I’ve managed to get hold of several bags of old black feathers.
I think the Crow Mask is coming…
Three crows cackled overhead and ah remember thinking as ah passed into unconsciousness; one crow - a stranger, two crows - danger, three crows - a summons…

I need...
Dozens of new art projects - both single and collaborative - to work on,
More hours in the day (or less hours at my day job),
To get rid of this damn cold.
Anonymous asked: Will you be releasing any more postcards?
Anonymous asked: What were the last 5 books you read, and did they inspire any of your photos?

I feel your pain…yet I have to life model today! Bring out the heaters!
I hope it’s a long, comfortable, pose where you can get away with (almost) dozing off!
Aaaaaaaaaachooo!
Plans of a long weekend spent making new masks and wandering round woods near Brighton have been derailed by getting a cold. Instead I will be sniffling and aching and fluctuating between being hot and cold. *sigh*
I’ve got a few more mask photos from last week’s photoshoot, so if I feel better tomorrow I’ll get them uploaded here.
In the meantime please do feel free to send me...

This is the web version of the Lazarus Corporation email newsletter, which gets sent out about 4-6 times a year (and this one has just been sent out - click through to have a look and sign up if you like the look of it).
I keep looking around me for inspiration to make more masks, and all I see are the enticing time sinks of TV and internet.

suggestion for future: paint whole area across eyes/bridge of nose black, and hair over elastic strap
Good idea, that’s definitely how I’m going to do it next time.
I see these as “exploratory” photographs - getting a feel for a bigger project that is slowly and vaguely coming...
