Lunchtime trip to Lawrence Art Supplies shop...
I suspect I will come back with far more than I actually need.

Completely failed to do any artwork this weekend.
I blame the heat.

It was time for a new blog theme →
Very much liking this one: nice and clean, plenty of white space.
Plus comment threads on all posts, which makes it much more sociable.

Various ponderings on the subject of future...
Since Tumblr’s current technical problems are preventing it from being a source of discovery & pleasant distraction, I may as well spend some minutes typing out some thoughts about future artwork plans, then send them out into the void, in the hope that they won’t be eaten by whatever gremlins are bugging Tumblr today.
So I’ve got the Crow Mask more-or-less finished, and I...
Is it me or is Tumblr screwing up more than usual tonight?

Back in Brighton after a day and a night in London. Tea and Internet.
Well there have been better plans
But none that I could ever understand
I see...
Oh, maybe, in terms of surrender,
On a backcloth of lashes and eyes
In a flood...
It’s Friday night and it’s been a long, long, week.
The first bottle of wine has been opened…
Getting more and more ideas for the Crow Mask photographs.
These are going to be very good indeed. Oh, yes.

a fanned out collar, perhaps? or hand covers?
Hmmm yes to both, I think. Particularly the hand-covers. Some sort of raggedy black cloth wrapped around from half-way up the lower arm to the knuckles, with feathers to taste.

looks great!
Thank you! :) I think it needs other crow-like accessories to go with it - not sure what yet, though.

Crow Mask update
The Crow mask is drying on the bathroom windowsill - I think that’s the last bit of work I need to do on it, but will be able to tell better when it’s dry.
The more I look at it, the more I feel it needs to be accessorised! Maybe a long crow feather “necklace” to go with it, so something like that? Somehow the “crow-ness” needs to be distributed more across the...

Resolutions for the Second Half of 2012
While I’ve been doing plenty of photography this year, it occurs to me that there are some areas where more effort is still needed.
So:
I will get off my backside and attend the life-drawing evenings again, to get back into drawing practice.
I will clear some space in my studio/library/office so that it doesn’t resemble the overflow room in a charity shop.
I will do some more...
Looking for more Tumblrs to follow
…so please recommend some!
I’m particularly interested in following artists or arty people from the South of England. But they don’t have to be from the South of England and they don’t have to be artists, just interesting.
Any recommendations?

I feel like a need a wander round the North Laine tomorrow, but preferably before 11am (after which it’s usually too crowded with people bumbling around and stopping suddenly in front of me to stare into a shop window).
I expect to return with books and art materials and various other bits & pieces of nonsense, because that always seems to happen.
Ah, Friday evening
A weekend free from the day job, some time to relax, spend hours on the internet, and some time working more on the Crow Mask.
And on Saturday evening, a night out to see a Brighton Fringe performance of Medusa.
US President Barack Obama has said he is in favour... →
Personally I think he should have said this in the first week of his presidency, but at least he’s finally gone on the record.

Right - off to do more reading on ancient British crow goddesses.
Work on the mask will start on Saturday, with the aim doing the photographs in July (lots of thinking and planning involved, and maybe a couple of attempts at the mask).

Badhbh
Badhbh (pronounced bayv or barv) - also spelt Badb, but I prefer the spelling with 4 consonants in a row - was apparently a Celtic goddess who took the form of a crow. So she’s the theme I’m using for the Crow Mask photos.
She seems to have been a goddess related to battlefields, with a good line in prophecy. I’m reading some academic texts about her at the moment, and getting...
Feathers, feathers, feathers
First lot of second-hand black feathers arrived today, but they’re too “fluffy” for the Crow Mask.
A second batch are now on their way, which will (hopefully) be more suitable.
Dammit I want to start this mask!

After some research...
…I now have a huge number of ideas for the whole “Crow Mask” photograph series. :)
Can’t wait for the feathers to arrive, then I can start on the mask (the blank mask that will form the base of the mask arrived today).
Then I need to find a model and start working on the “set”.

Researching bird masks in ancient Europe
…trying to find some inspiration for the forthcoming Crow Mask. Sounds like bird masks of various sorts were used across all of Europe in prehistoric times - I’ve found references from Greece, Scandinavia, and apparently there’s a person depicted wearing a bird mask in the Lascaux cave paintings.
In more practical matters, a supply of black feathers are apparently on their way...
